What AI marks in ATARISE practice exams, how marks are worked out, and how to ask for a mark to be reviewed.
In ATARISE practice exams, AI marks written answers, mathematics answers (both the working and the final answer) and drawing answers.
Multiple-choice questions are not marked by AI. They are marked by fixed rules.
Marks help students practise. They are not official VCE results.
To mark an answer, we send the AI model:
We do not send the AI model the student's:
Anything typed into an answer is sent as written. Please do not include personal details in your answers.
The AI assesses the answer against the marking guide and returns a structured result. ATARISE's own code then calculates the mark from the marking guide and limits it to between zero and the marks available for the question.
A mark can never be higher than the marks available for the question, whatever an answer says. We also test that instructions written inside an answer do not change the mark.
AI can make mistakes. For example, it may:
If automatic marking fails, the answer shows “Automatic marking failed for this part” and is recorded as 0 until it is re-marked.
Before feedback is shown, it is checked automatically for harmful or inappropriate content. If it is flagged, you still get your mark, but the feedback is withheld while it is reviewed.
Your teacher can see your marks and the AI feedback.
If you think a mark is wrong, tell your teacher or email support@atarise.com.au.
AI marking is provided by Anthropic, through its API. Anthropic's commercial terms do not allow training on the data ATARISE sends, and ATARISE has a data processing agreement with Anthropic.
ATARISE does not use answers to train or fine-tune AI models.
We email schools before we change the AI model used for marking.
